PRINCETON, NJ – The University of California, Berkeley ended its race weekend undefeated as the Bears won nine of nine races at the Stanford Invitational, earning them the number-one ranking in the fourth USRowing coaches poll.
Cal secured all 13 first-place votes and remained undefeated so far in the 2017 Spring season. First-place Cal will be racing the second-place University of Washington on Saturday, April 22 at Washington’s home course.
Harvard University finished third in the poll after sweeping all five races against Princeton University and winning the Compton Cup. Yale University, followed by Princeton University closed out the top five.
In the lightweight men’s poll, Cornell University is back in the number one spot after beating Princeton University in the 1st and 3rd varsity eights. The Cornell lights earned five of the first-place votes. Yale University lightweights are ranked second with four first-place votes after winning four out of five races against Penn and Columbia on their home course.
Princeton University ranked third. The United States Naval Academy was fourth and the University of Pennsylvania was fifth.
Stanford University’s lightweight women were off last week but earned all six first-place votes to remain on top for the fourth week in a row. Second-place Boston University defeated Harvard and MIT on Saturday, April 15, to win the Lightweight Beanpot for the second-consecutive year.
Princeton University earned a third-place ranking. The University of Tulsa and Harvard-Radcliffe rounded out the top five.
