BOSTON, Mass. – The Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) will announce their national championship fields via an online selection show for the first time in the 116-year history of the regatta. The webcast is scheduled for Tuesday, May 15 at 7:30 p.m. EDT.
The full fields for the Men’s Heavyweight, Men’s Lightweight and Women’s Lightweight National Championships will be announced during the inaugural broadcast.
“We are excited to provide this championship enhancement to our member schools, student-athletes and all our viewing fans,” exclaimed IRA Commissioner Gary Caldwell. “The broadcast will allow for teams to come together and hear of their selection to the regatta, rather than read about it. This will put our event in line with how other sports announce their championship field.”
Fred Schoch and Colleen Saville will serve as the show’s analysts in breaking down the selections and providing insight to the crews advancing on to the National Championship field.
The continued focus on the association’s broadcast presence is the second in as many years after the successful 2017 IRA Announcer contest which saw new talent emerge in Steve Todd and Saville. Both are on tap to return in 2018 along mainstays Schoch and Bob Jaugstetter.
The show will be broadcast free of charge across the LocalLive Networks platform, which serves as the webstream provider for the Collegiate Division regattas in the Men’s Sprints, National Invitational Rowing Championships, Women’s Sprints and New England Rowing Championships.
