BOSTON, Mass. – Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Commissioner Gary Caldwell has announced an announcer contest for the IRA National Championship regatta. In a partnership between row2k media and the IRA, an online campaign has been launched to select an announcer to win a free trip and join the broadcast team on Lake Natoma at the 2017 IRA National Championship Regatta.
“The Association, along with the Stewards and row2k media, are excited to provide this opportunity to the rowing community. This contest will be a positive way to engage the rowing community, our membership, fans and alumni while also providing an outlet to display our newly launched IRA website,” said Caldwell.
The contest calls for fans to submit an audio clip of themselves calling portions of a pre-selected race. Once submitted, a panel of broadcast experts will review the entries and select their favorites to post online. From there, members of the rowing community will be able to vote for their favorite. The poll tallies will be an important element under consideration by the selection panel when choosing the winner who will ultimately win a trip to California and join the regatta’s broadcast team.
The IRA also recently launched a standalone website for the association and championship. The website will provide news about the association, an archive for awards and record holders and also have pertinent information on the National Championship.
“The launch of this website has been a long time coming,” stated IRA Executive Director Katie Boldvich. “IRA Coaches’ Chair and Brown University Head Coach Paul Cooke deserves a bulk of the credit for finally making the site a reality. Thanks to his vision and persistence we now have a home base to send fans, alumni, parents and current competitors.”
The 2017 IRA National Championship will be held Friday, June 2 through Sunday, June 4 on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif. Full instructions for submissions and rules for the Announcer Contest can be found at https://irarowing.com/announcer-contest/.
